The Friends are currently mapping invasive plants in the Claremont Hills Wilderness Park, and Saturday morning we mapped invasives along the first section of the Cobal Canyon Trail. This is what the resulting map on CalFlora looks like:

If you go the actual CalFlora page, you can click on a dot and see details of each observation, including photos and number of plants. There are a lot of invasive plants along the Cobal Canyon trail, and in fact the Master Plan noted that Cobal Canyon had the highest number of different invasive species.
If you would like to help with the mapping effort, please contact us at info@friendsofthewildernesspark.org, and we’ll contact you to sign you up for instruction and mapping.
Effective October 1, parking fees will be increasing at the Claremont Hills Wilderness Park. The City of Claremont just sent out the following announcement:

As part of the City of Claremont’s recently adopted Fee Schedule, parking fees for the Claremont Hills Wilderness Park (CHWP) and Thompson Creek Trail (TCT) parking lots will be changing effective October 1, 2018.
Single Use Four Hour Parking Permit
The 2018 Annual permits will remain valid in both lots and residential permits will remain valid in the Thompson Creek Trail parking lot.
Claremont Hills Wilderness Park 2019 Annual Pass and the 2019-21 Claremont Resident Pass will be available beginning December 3, 2018 at City Hall and the Alexander Hughes Community Center.

On the second Saturday of every month, Friends volunteers greet visitors to the park, provide maps, directions, water for hikers and dogs, and reinforce desirable park behavior. Volunteers are welcome to hike the loop, pick up trash, and assist park visitors with information along the way.
The next opportunity will be October 13 – please join us!
We have two 2-hr shifts in the morning at the Main Gate. Before each shift, volunteers meet for a brief information and safety training session at the Euro Café (Mills and Baseline) then carpool to the entrance.
Volunteers will receive free T-shirts (see above!) on the second day they volunteer!
